FAQs
Do I have to sign up?
Yes. It’s quick and easy, just enter your name, email and create a password.
How often do you update digital greeting card designs and your charity list?
The short answer is constantly. Artists and designers are always adding new designs to the Charity Greetings digital card collection. So whatever the occasion, you’ll always see something new and exciting. New charities are always welcome; the number of charities we support is constantly growing.
Can I request a charity to be added?
Of course. As long as the charity is a UK registered charity, we will approach them on your behalf and ask them to join. Please
click here to let us know which charity you have in mind.
How much goes to charity?
For every digital greeting card sent, £1 goes to charity. If you added a Good Gift or Monetary donation and made a Gift Aid declaration, over 100% of the amount is passed on to charity. If a Gift Aid declaration wasn’t made, a charge of 5% plus VAT and the payment processing fees will be deducted. See
Where the money goes for more information.
I know my charity will get £1 from a digital greeting card. What happens with the remaining 99p?
Quite simply 30p is VAT. The balance depends on how you paid:
By credit card: 7p is for card processing and anti-fraud charges. 62p goes towards running the website, paying artists, processing donations and fulfilling our guarantee.
By debit card: 35p is for card processing and anti-fraud charges. 34p goes towards running the website, paying artists, processing donations and fulfilling our guarantee.
By PayPal: 26p is for PayPal processing and anti-fraud charges. 43p goes towards running the website, paying artists, processing donations and fulfilling our guarantee.
Who selects which charity benefits?
You do when you send a digital greeting card or add a Good Gift / monetary donation. Simply choose which charity you’d like to benefit.
Can I buy more than one digital greeting card at a time?
Yes. You can buy as many digital greeting cards as you like. We also offer discounts for box sets.
If I’m sending a digital greeting card can I donate more than £1 to charity?
Yes, to raise more for your charity select a Good Gift or add a monetary donation to send with your digital greeting card.
Is my message totally private?
When you send a digital greeting card it may be displayed on the recipient’s virtual Mantelpiece. You do however have the option to select a privacy setting so only you and your recipient can view it and not other Charity Greeting users. Under the Data Protection Act we also promise never to pass information on to any third parties. The only time we will ever access a digital greeting card message is if we have complaints from recipients who find it offensive.
When will my digital greeting card be sent?
Instantly if you like, alternatively it will arrive between 2.00am and 3.00am GMT on the scheduled delivery date.
What happens if the email address I enter is incorrect?
We will do our best to resolve this by contacting you if we receive an invalid email response.
Why didn’t the person I sent my digital greeting card to receive it?
This problem most often turns out to be a typing error. However, if your recipient’s e-mail address is correct, their internet service provider could be routing the digital card notification to a bulk folder by mistake. For example, Yahoo and Hotmail sets up bulk folders to intercept what they consider to be bulk mail or "spam" allowing only personal messages through to the inbox.
Will my recipient be able to view the digital greeting card I send them?
If your recipient is having problems viewing your digital greeting card, this may be due to the following reasons.
Platform:
The Charity Greetings website has been built for Windows 2000 plus later versions and MAC OS X and later versions
Browsers:
For optimum viewing and to allow for the latest technology used in the build of the website, the following internet browsers may be used:

Corporate Firewall:
If your recipient chooses to view their card at work, their company’s firewall may prevent them from viewing it. They should check with their company’s network administrator to find out if this is the case, or simply view it from their personal computer.
How will I know if my recipient has received my digital greeting card?
So as to not bombard you with emails, we only advise you if your recipient has viewed your digital greeting card, registered with Charity Greetings and added it to their virtual Mantelpiece.
What if I need to change or cancel my Charity Greeting?
Once an order has been placed and the transaction has completed, the digital greeting card(s) cannot be amended or cancelled.
Are my personal details and credit/debit card details safe?
Yes, we follow strict procedures governed by the Data Protection Act. At no point do any employees of Charity Greetings see your credit/debit card details. All payments are processed via RBS WorldPay’s secure payment gateway.
Will you pass on my personal details to the charity or any third parties?
If you have declared Gift Aid with your Good Gift / monetary donation, the relevant charity is provided with your full name, postal address and Good Gift / monetary donation value for their Gift Aid records only.
The only other time your details may be passed on to the relevant charity / third party is if you explicitly request this by opting-in, in which case your personal information would be provided for marketing purposes only. Rest assured we’re registered with the Information Commissioner, the Data Protection Act Registrar and under the UK Data Protection Act 1984 and the UK Data Protection Act 1998 – Confirmation of Renewal.
When do you pay the charities?
The charities are paid monthly, four weeks in arrears via online banking, subject to a minimum remittance of £10. If the amount due is less than the minimum, it’s carried forward to the next remittance date. The four week delay is due to RBS WorldPay’s (the payment gateway) processing time.

What is Gift Aid?
Charities can reclaim an extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. In addition, an extra 3% of transitional relief will be repaid to charities for donations made between 6th April 2008 and 5th April 2011. Gift Aid allows charities to reclaim an extra 28% of the original donation.
To qualify for Gift Aid, an individual must make a declaration that they pay UK income or capital gains tax at least equal to the amount reclaimed from HMRC by the charity in the current tax year to qualify for his/her gift to be Gift Aided. You can only make a Gift Aid declaration on your own money. You cannot make a declaration on behalf of someone else or on behalf of a company.
We do not accept responsibility for donors who apply to use Gift Aid but who do not qualify.
Where a fundraising event has been part or fully funded by a Charity, donations to these events are eligible for Gift Aid reclaim, however, as the fundraiser is benefitting from the Charity’s funding, donors cannot claim Gift Aid if they are a participant in the event or a connected person. By this we mean the husband or wife of the fundraiser, a relative (brother, sister, parent, grandparent, son, daughter or grandchild) of the fundraiser or the husband, wife of a relative of the fundraiser or a company under the control of the participant or connected person.
When you donate via an optional voluntary Good Gift / monetary donation, we will ask you to confirm that you wish for Gift Aid to be reclaimed on your donation and we will then ask you for your full name and home address including postcode. We will pass this information on to the Charity and HMRC for the purposes of reclaiming tax on behalf of the charity.
You can make a Good Gift / monetary donation and remain anonymous to CharityGreetings.com users by setting your donation to private, but if you supply your postal address and tick the Gift Aid declaration box your Good Gift / monetary donation can still be valid for Gift Aid reclaim.
By choosing to claim Gift Aid you are giving us consent to share your details with the chosen charity if required. You are also confirming the full name and address supplied are your real details and the money being used to make the donation is your own.
You may cancel your declaration at any time in writing to us, but while the declaration is in force, please let us know if you change your name or address. Remember to notify us if you no longer pay an amount of income tax and/ or capital gains tax equal to the amount of tax that we reclaim on your donations. If you are not sure whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid tax relief, please contact us, or ask your local tax office for leaflet IR113 Gift Aid.
Any personal information we gather via the website will be processed and stored at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
